Dual unitary matrices and multi-leg generalizations: from quantum information theory to many-body physics

We consider quantum circuits in one space dimension built out of so-called dual unitary gates. These models are new types of exactly solvable systems. Dual unitarity means that the gate describes unitary evolution not only in the time, but also in the space direction. The construction of dual unitary gates is related to multiple other areas of theoretical physics, most importantly to quantum information theory. We review the construction of these circuits, including multi-leg generalizations, and we mention connections also to the theory of integrable models.
