Extended application deadline: Friday, Feb 2

The Center for the Physics of Biological Function presents its 6th biannual
Physics of Life: Students and Postdocs Edition symposium on Friday, Mar 1, 2024 at the CUNY Graduate Center in New York City.

Physics of Life: Students and Postdocs Edition is an ongoing symposia series highlighting and supporting the work of younger members in the biophysics community. Visit past SPE programming:

We invite speaker applications from current doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows working on the physics of biological systems. Each speaker will be allotted 20 minutes for presentation and Q&A. Individuals from historically marginalized institutions and backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

*The extended deadline to apply is Friday, Feb 2.* The application is simple; please submit the following using the links provided below:

  • title and abstract

  • short CV

  • personal statement (500 words or less): we are interested in information that might not be apparent in your CV. This can include your interests or something about your trajectory that you feel is relevant.

  • recommendation letter — to be submitted separately by faculty advisor

We hope to issue invitations during the week of February 12. All applicants will be notified of results by e-mail.

The Center provides full accommodation for speaker lodging and reimbursement for travel and meals. We will arrange speaker hotel lodging for 3 nights (arriving Thurs Feb 29, departing Sun Mar 3) in midtown Manhattan near the Graduate Center.

To request reimbursement for travel and other expenses at the end of your visit: please submit a copy of your boarding pass along with travel/meal receipts and a signed travel voucher.

Questions about the application, symposium, and assistance booking travel can be directed to Goeun Minshall at gminshall@gc.cuny.edu.

We look forward to hearing about your work!
